Desert Communities United Way (DCUW) and the High Desert Communities filled the Ebmeyer bus with supplies for needy students

When a family is struggling just to keep food on the table, school supplies may not be at the top of the shopping list. We at DCUW saw a need and worked to fill that void. Last year we were able to assist 900 children with backpacks filled with school supplies. This year we are working on 1,000.
During the month of July residents and businesses were encouraged to donate backpacks, pens, crayons, markers, glue sticks, notebooks, loose leaf paper, scissors, pencils, colored pencils and sharpeners.
Residents dropped supplies off at Desert Community Bank locations across the Victor Valley. Other local businesses also participated by putting out collection boxes until the deadline. Donors brought items to United Way’s Fund Raising kick-off “Stuff the Bus” event that was held from 7:30 to 11 a.m. July 27 at the Scandia Family Fun Center on Mariposa Road in Victorville.
The supplies filled a bus donated by Ebmeyer Charter. Ebmeyer lent the time and driver!
Volunteers stuffed the backpacks and DCUW is delivering them to partner agencies, school sites and other agencies getting them into the hands of needy children.
Give. Advocate. Volunteer. LIVE UNITED™.
